Opening Spell:
What inspired you to start playing cricket?
I was actually into classical dance. It was my parents who you could say, nudged me towards cricket. So I joined a summer camp with my brother. From then on my interest just grew in the game and I started training myself for the big league. It was in 91-92 that I starting playing for the state.
Who would you say is your inspiration?
I think master blaster Tendulkar is my inspiration. He has been playing the game for years now and his level of batting is something else. The way he maintains and reinvents himself at this stage in his career, is something that everyone can learn from.

When you started playing for the national team, women’s cricket wasn’t even in the news; did that make you want to rethink joining the team? No, I loved the game too much to be bothered about the coverage and endorsements. Playing the game with my team was all that I cared about. My parents put me into the game and till date I haven’t ever regretted the decision.
How supportive was your family?
Very, I mean, it was because of my parents that I took up the game in the first place. It was because of their confidence in me that I actually believed that I could be a world class cricketer.
